FAQ

What is the typical grant amount?

Median $1,200; range $300 to $3,500. We size to fully resolve a single bill, not partial relief that delays the crisis.

How fast is the disbursement?

5-7 business days from approval to vendor payment. For eviction-day or utility-shutoff-tomorrow cases, we can wire in 24 hours — note "URGENT" in the email subject.

Who is eligible?

US military veterans (any era, any branch — discharge under conditions other than dishonorable). Active-duty in transition (last 6 months). National Guard / Reserves who served. Surviving spouses with DIC eligibility. We don't verify VA disability rating — your service eligibility is the only requirement.

Is the aid taxable income to me?

Charitable hardship grants paid directly to a third-party vendor are generally NOT taxable income (per IRS Rev Rul 2003-12 + Pub 525). Consult your tax advisor for personalized guidance.

Can I apply more than once?

One Wounded Warriors grant per lifetime. For ongoing need, we refer to HUD-VASH (housing), SSVF (homelessness prevention), SNAP, your CVSO, and the VA. Email us for a warm referral.

What if I am not a veteran?

We focus on US military veterans. Surviving spouses with DIC eligibility qualify. For non-veteran emergency aid, search 211.org or your local United Way 211 line.
