What every veteran should know
- Presumptive conditions include: prostate cancer, bladder cancer, hypertension, hypothyroidism, ischemic heart disease, Parkinsonism, type 2 diabetes, and several more.
- Eligible service locations: Vietnam (in-country), Thailand (certain bases), Laos, Cambodia (specific operations), Korean DMZ (April 1968–August 1971), and more.
- Blue Water Navy veterans (those who served on ships within 12 nautical miles of Vietnam) received retroactive eligibility under the 2019 Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act.
- If you have a presumptive condition AND qualifying service, VA is required to grant service connection without requiring nexus proof.
- The 2022 PACT Act added hypertension to the presumptive list — many denied claims are now supplemental-eligible.
