Standard refund policy

Plain-English summary. This page is the canonical policy; if you need a signed PDF for legal or due-diligence purposes, email partnerships@warriorsfund.org.

1. Refund window

Donations are refundable within 30 calendar days of the transaction date. Request a refund by emailing info@warriorsfund.org with:

  • Donor name
  • Approximate donation date and amount
  • Last 4 digits of the card, or DAF sponsor name, or check number

Refunds process to the original payment method within 5–10 business days. Card refunds may take 1–2 billing cycles to appear on your statement depending on your issuer.

2. After 30 days

Refund requests beyond the 30-day window are evaluated case-by-case. We honor refunds for clear billing errors (duplicate charges, incorrect amounts, fraudulent activity). We do not refund donations already disbursed to a third-party vendor on behalf of a veteran — e.g., a landlord paid for emergency rent, a utility paid for shutoff prevention, or a clinic paid for HRT care. Once those funds leave our account, they belong to the recipient veteran's case.

3. Recurring (monthly) donations

Monthly donors can cancel anytime via:

  • The Cancel subscription link in any donation receipt email from Givebutter, PayPal, or your DAF/employer platform
  • Emailing info@warriorsfund.org with your donor name and last 4 digits of the card or account

Cancellations stop future charges immediately. Already-charged donations are governed by the 30-day refund window above. We do not impose lock-ins, minimum-commitment periods, or cancellation fees.

4. Donor-advised funds (DAFs)

DAF grants are irrevocable once disbursed by the sponsor (Fidelity Charitable, Schwab Charitable, Vanguard Charitable, NPT, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan, BofA, T. Rowe Price, Raymond James, Edward Jones, NCF, JCF, your local community foundation) per IRS rules governing 501(c)(3) DAF distributions. If you recommended a grant in error and the sponsor has not yet disbursed the funds, contact the sponsor immediately to request a reversal of the recommendation. After disbursement, the funds belong to Warriors Fund's general or restricted operating accounts per the grant agreement and cannot be returned.

5. Routing to the wrong organization (similar name)

Several U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofits use names containing “Wounded Warriors.” If you intended to donate to us (EIN 86-1336741) but the gift was routed to a different organization with a similar name:

  • Within 30 days: Contact your bank, credit card issuer, or DAF sponsor. They can usually reverse the gift.
  • Then re-donate to 86-1336741 via any authorized channel at warriorsfund.org/donate.
  • If you've already exhausted the reversal window with the misrouted recipient, we suggest treating the misrouted gift as donated and making a separate gift to us at warriorsfund.org/donate.

Verify our EIN at apps.irs.gov/app/eos/ before donating to prevent misrouting. Banks and DAFs route by EIN, not by name.

6. Tax deductibility

Warriors Fund (legal name Wounded Warriors) is a Texas 501(c)(3) public charity. Donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by U.S. law. Donors received no goods or services in exchange for their contributions unless explicitly stated on the donation receipt. Save your receipt for IRS records.

Verify our 501(c)(3) status at IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search using EIN 86-1336741.

7. Disputed transactions / chargebacks

If you dispute a transaction directly with your card issuer rather than contacting us first, we lose the donation, the dispute resolution fee, and any matching gift. Please email info@warriorsfund.org first — we resolve nearly all donor issues within one business day. Filing a chargeback after we've already issued a refund will result in the chargeback being declined and may incur additional processor fees that reduce future donor impact.

Common questions

What if my donation receipt didn't arrive?

Receipts come from the processor (Givebutter, PayPal, your DAF/employer platform). Check your spam folder for the processor's domain. If still missing after 24 hours, email info@warriorsfund.org with the approximate date and amount and we'll re-send.

Can I change my recurring donation amount?

Yes — cancel the current recurring donation via the receipt-email link and re-subscribe at the new amount via /donate. Or email info@warriorsfund.org and we can do it for you.

Are mailed-check donations refundable?

Yes, same 30-day window. We will mail a check to the donor's address on file or void the original check if not yet deposited. Email info@warriorsfund.org with the donor name and check number.

What about stock or crypto donations?

Appreciated-stock gifts (DTC transfers to our Schwab account) and crypto gifts (via The Giving Block) are not refundable once the asset is in our custody. Tax law treats these gifts as completed upon transfer of legal ownership. Contact us before initiating a transfer if you have any uncertainty.
